In 30 years....

In 30 years, life will most definitely be different. When I wake up in the morning, it will be to an alarm clock that only I can hear. This way my roommates won’t go crazy when I don’t turn it off as soon as I hear it. I will then wake up, speak to my radio and it will turn on to my favorite tunes. I’ll jump in the shower, where the automatic robot will help me wash my hair, as I wash my body, cutting my shower time in half. As I step out of the steamy shower, the towel will robotically wrap itself around me, drying me off. With the help of Pinky (my personal robot) I will pick out the perfect outfit, considering outside temperature, plans for the day, and many other life altering details for my outfit. Pinky will then help me with my makeup and my hair and I’ll be off to class on my transportation disk. The flying disk works by me just stepping on it and telling it where to go, making me never late to class. I’ll grab breakfast as I’m flying and eat it on the way. As I’m sitting in class, I’ll be able to talk in many different languages and we’ll be learning much of the same as today, just adding in more technology and cultural differences. After class, I will get back on my flying disk to take me back to my dorm. I’ll have Pinky prepare my dinner for me and my roommates and after Pinky cleans the kitchen, she will help me with my studies.

The Skunk Ape Tutorial

This tutorial for me was beneficial and informative; however, I already knew most of the information inside the modules from what my professors and teachers have taught over the years. I feel like this tutorial was very juvenile and should be given to high school students so they are more prepared when they enter college, instead of learning all this research information the first couple of semesters. My senior year in high school, I had to write an extensive research paper that took the whole year, if I would have known this information then, my life would have been a lot easier. Even in Composition 1, we should have been assigned this tutorial for our benefit to help with the research paper. The games and quizzes inside the tutorial made the assignment much easier to sit and do. Without the games and quizzes, I’m sure I would have become exhausted from all the already known information. Most of the modules were very repetitive and way too long. Once the information is stated, the module should have ended and gone into another point of research, no need to keep repeating the same information. This tutorial did indeed refresh my memory on performing basic research, so all in all, very informative.

Brothers

“Brothers” is a well rounded, universal movie appealed to teens, but even more so middle aged adults. This movie has an incredible plot and mood depicted throughout the entire film. The heart ache of losing a husband to war, and not feeling as if he is gone, will touch the hearts of many married men and women as they picture themselves in the wife’s shoes. “Brothers” puts much into perceptive; war, love, and getting on with life. The wife in the beginning of the trailer says, “I can’t feel it, shouldn’t I be able to feel it?” Many people, especially as we grown up try to fix and interpreted situations the way we think they should be. The visual aspects throughout the trailer are very heartfelt and real. Just by watching the trailer, you can depict there will be scenes with action, love, and family. The song placed in the background adds meaning to the visual images you see in the trailer. “Don’t let me go…” is the way the wife felt when she was getting on with her life after excepting that fact that she will never see her husband again. The love, fright, happiness, and sadness will have very one watching this movie emotional.

The Ugly Truth

Within the boundaries of what makes us male or female, sexuality, confusion and domineer may stand in our way. “The Ugly Truth” really is ugly when it comes down to manipulating the minds of the opposite sex. Girls, have you ever wondered if a guy was really interested in you? Guys have you ever wanted a girl to just loosen up a bit and let down her guard? We all think this way, we are only human. If you have ever been in love, lust or even ever wanted to be tied into one of those crazy emotions (as I know you all have), “The Ugly Truth” is like a pamphlet on getting what it is you want. Throughout this incredible movie, you will laugh, laugh some more, and cry because you are laughing too much. This edgy movie will have you testing your sexuality and annotating every head node given in your direction. Believe me, you will want to see this movie, as it makes your mind and mentality race until the end. The battle between Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler will have you analyzing their chemistry until the end. This is by far a great film… watch it, laugh and learn.

Less Privacy Is Good for Us (and You) #2

Privacy is a matter of keeping your personal life personal. I think everyone has their right to a private life, without anyone barging in to tell you how to live a certain way. Amitai Etzioni’s “Less Privacy Is Good for Us (and You)” is a very overly opinionated article and I think he draws a small subject into a huge controversial article. Etzioni states many ways on how our life and privacy is being watched; by ATM machines, DNA tests, HIV screenings, jobs and so forth. I would have to disagree with Etzioni, I think that everyone should be allowed to live their lives as they please. As long as what others are doing in their personal life is not criminal or unsafe, I think they have the full right to do as they please and we, as citizens should not have that right taken away from us.

Etzioni makes apparent that the 4th amendment is a right that we are given by our government. Going against this amendment for even the safety of our neighbors, is a violation to our rights. Even though I don’t think that sex offenders and child molesters should be given this right, I still believe that we should be given privacy until we do something illegal and unlawful.

My Home

Immokalee is a land where agriculture is and has always been extremely important. In Immokalee, the Seminole tribe is represented as one of the main communities. When the government decided to drain the everglades, this greatly affected the Seminoles by destroying their means of transportation. Immokalee had an abundance of farm work and most families that lived there had farms right outside their homes. People mostly ate what they farmed but did not shy away from exporting and importing. Immokalee is clearly a symbol of the “old” American Dream. This is mainly seen because they farmed within their own lands and viewed education not as highly as learning the ropes of the fields.

Fort Meade is my hometown and not many people know where Fort Meade is located on the map. I find Immokalee extremely similar to Fort Meade. In my hometown there are a lot of cattle ranches, orange groves, and farms; and we use these different sources to support our families and export to other towns. Fort Meade is very small and people go to my town to start off their new lives and begin a family. In ten years, I see Immokalee and Fort Meade both growing and becoming more populated and popular. I think they will both continue to prosper and flourish into bigger societies.

A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One?

“A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One?” was written by Anna Quindlen. She gives her thesis in the opening paragraph; “America is an improbable idea. A mongrel nation built of ever-changing disparate parts, it is held together by a notion, the notion that all men are created equal, though everyone knows that most men consider themselves better than someone.” Quindlen argues that our nation; the United States considers themselves as being equal and whole. However, that is not evident to how we live our lives every day. She uses the title to outline a question, to make us think about how we actually see our nation. Quindlen uses the first part of the title to say that our Country is made up of many pieces, like a quilt. The second part of her title expresses a question. In those quilt pieces, we only chose one to represent our Country. However, every piece of the quilt that she is referring to all symbolize something different.
In my preference, America is known as the “melting pot.” In which we add in different cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, religion, and monetary status. The sense of a “melting pot” is important and indeed makes the United States who we are today. However, we tend to position people in different classes and this makes our “all men are equal,” imbalanced. I completely agree with Anna Quindlen, in that our Country still practices segregation but covers it up by saying we are all “equal.” She uses 9/11 as a perfect example to show how our nation came together in a time of need.
